The Texas Hunting Safety Course Field Day
Signing Up for the Field Day
If you are under the age of 17, you must complete a Field Day after successfully completing the online portion of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Hunting education course. You will need to locate and sign up for the required Field Day.
You must bring your Temporary Hunter Education Certificate to the Field Day as proof of having completed the online course. You will not be able to complete the Field Day without this proof.
Passing the online course does not guarantee you a spot at the Field Day.
What to Expect at the Field Day
This is-person Field Day will be 4–6 hours, depending on the number of students attending. Activities include:
- a classroom session
- outdoor shooting
- blood trailing
- demonstrations of tree stand safety
- survival skills
At the Field Day, Texas-specific regulations are covered in detail as well as issues that are not covered in this online course. Be sure to have proper clothing for the outdoor sessions.
After attending and passing the Field Day portion of the Hunting education requirement, you will receive your Hunter Education Certificate.
